Designing for minimal waste and reuse

Reducing waste begins before manufacture or installation. By considering material efficiency, future adaptability and end-of-life options during design, we can help limit unnecessary material use and retain value within products for longer.

Our approach includes optimizing component quantities, improving the use of standard partition lengths and identifying where existing materials can be retained, reused or recycled.

Reuse and the circular economy

Partitioning systems are often required to respond to changing layouts, workplace needs and building uses. Designing with future alteration in mind can make it easier to retain and reuse suitable components rather than replacing an entire installation.

Where clients have existing stocks of glass, our design teams can assess whether it may be incorporated into a new partitioning scheme. Reuse is dependent on the glass meeting the required dimensions, condition, specification and performance criteria for the proposed application.

Designing for demountability

The ability to separate components can support future relocation, replacement and material recovery. Product and installation information can also help clients understand what has been installed and how individual materials may be managed later in the building’s life.

On projects requiring more detailed records, product data can contribute to material passports and digital asset information, supporting future decisions around reuse, recycling or responsible disposal.
